Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art
Born in 1987, lives and works in Beijing.
He started to work in Butoh choreography and performance in 2009, cooperating with many domestic and foreign musicians, planning and participating in many Butoh and sound-based improvisation scene. Since 2013, he has turned to create more individual non-dancing performance and video art works.
TRICKSTER is an ensemble consisting of six artists who, in addition to their individual practice, are experimenting as a collective with divers conditionsand ‘instant performance’. With backgrounds in theater, music, art and design, they are researching the nature of emergent-form composition: a very open structure in which the performers discover or create unique forms together, without any preconceived ideas about how the performance should look like. The Trickster figure is associated with playfulness, destruction, unacceptable behavior and blurring of morality. As a group, TRICKSTER plays with the restructuring of structure and bending of boundaries in the search for unexpected and accidental discovery.
